Hazor Reports

Hazor’s important role in ancient times is reflected in the Bible and in extra-biblical sources from throughout the Fertile Crescent covering a period from the second millennium BCE through the first century CE.

Hazor is the largest tell-site in Israel. Some of the most controversial problems inbiblical history directly relate to Hazor. The excavations conducted here during the 1950s and 60s under the direction of Yigael Yadin were the main proving ground for the development of an Israeli ÒschoolÓ of biblical archaeology. Hazor has become a cornerstone for the chronologies and typologies of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the region. Renewal of excavations at the site in the 1990s under the direction of Amnon Ben-Tor has aroused renewed interest in Hazor, which remains one of the most important archaeological sites in Israel.
